News from West Ottawa High School

December 2016 Update from the Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and WOHS Community,

I hope this find you and your family enjoying the Holiday season.  The Month of Caring (#WOmoc16) has become a annual event at WOHS as our school community comes together in service to others. The Month of Caring typically begins after Thanksgiving break and culminates in our Holiday assembly held on the day before Christmas break.  The 2016 WO Month of Caring was possibly the largest fundraising event in school history. Student Senate did a tremendous job once again leading M.O.C. activities which included the following:

  • 1st Hour Food Drive
First hours are invited to help restock the WOHS food pantry.  The class that collects items and tweets out the most creative, interesting and “hearty” looking food statue will win a Doughnut Breakfast!  The WOHS food pantry donates weekly food supplies to WO families in need. Contact North reception at 786-1100 with questions. #WOMOC16
  • Operation Toy Drive (Adopt-A-Child): Nov. 28- Dec. 09
First hour classrooms will be assigned an anonymous “adoptee”  to buy presents for from our West Ottawa community.  All “adopted” students are from WOPS elementary or middle schools. Over 100 WOPS students are being supported by Operation Toy Drive this year! Student Senate will furnish the age, gender, sizes and “likes” of the individual child to each class.  First hour, Friday, December 9th will be pick up day! Therefore, ALL gifts must be purchased and ready for pick up promptly after 1st hour on 12/09.
  • Stuff the Bus (Sponsored by NHS & CTEE)- Saturday December 3, 8 AM- 2 PM
Here is a great way for families to participate. This event will take place at the Northside Family Fare and D&W locations on the morning of December 5, so plan your holiday grocery shopping accordingly! All food donations will be to support Community Action House food pantries.
  • Senior Survivor 2016: Friday December 16- Wednesday December 21
12 SENIORS…only 1 to be named the 2016 SENIOR SURVIVOR! #WOsurvivor16 was the most successful Senior Survivor event yet. The 12 survivors raised $17,321 toward the WINWO Charity. When In Need WO is our internal charity which is used to support WOPS students across the district with clothing items, basic needs, educational opportunities, and more.  A huge shout out to Student Senate, WOBN, and Assistant Principal Jason Reinecke for all their hard work on Senior Survivor 2016.
  • Holiday Assembly- Wednesday, December 21

Be prepared to get into the Holiday Spirit with the annual Holiday Assembly!  Our choirs, orchestra and jazz band will be decking the halls…or Gymnasium…with festive tunes.  There will also be games, skits and clubs highlighted in this hour of festive fun!
