News from West Ottawa High School

February 2019 Update from the Principal

Greetings from the tail end of the 2019 polar vortex!  What a week!

Recently, students completed their first semester exams and embarked on a new semester.  When this happens, we also start looking ahead to the next school year for scheduling.  Please take a moment to discuss course selection with your child.  WOHS offers more advanced courses than any other school in the area.  Additionally, WOHS possesses a comprehensive variety of elective courses that align with our mission of “preparing students to be college, career and life ready.”  Students should build a schedule that challenges them, and prepares them for the future.  The WOHS Course Offering Guide is a great resource when learning about all of the options available.

On February 7, 2019, from 6-8 p.m., we will welcome the Class of 2023 for our annual Showcase night.  This is a great opportunity for all prospective high school students to learn about the endless possibilities at WOHS in terms of course offerings and extra-curricular activities.  Check out the Showcase page for more information.

In the fall, West Ottawa Public Schools introduced its first mental health community event with the viewing of Angst.  The support from the community, partnered with the district’s commitment to mental wellness, means that the district will continue to offer more events of this nature.

On February 25, please join us at 6 p.m. as we host three sessions on the important topics of Depression, Healthy Relationships and Anxiety.  These sessions will be round table format with a local professional in each session.

At WOHS, there are wonderful things happening in the classroom, on the stage, at a festival, or any competitive field every day!  There is no shortage of success stories.

One particular example is the current historic run by the WOHS Boys Swimming & Diving team led by Coach Steve Bowyer.  The team is currently ranked #1 in the state, and remarkably has not lost a dual meet since February 6, 2014!!!

There are few opportunities to support the team with home meets on February 5 (Senior Night) and February 7 both at 6 p.m.  Also, the State Finals will be held on March 8-9 at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Thank you, and as always, Go WO!

Mr. Reinecke
