Carlos Martinez Garcia completed the full IB Diploma Program at West Ottawa High School (Class of 2013). Carlos completed his Bachelor’s degree at Eastern Michigan University (Class of 2017). Currently, Carlos is pursuing a Graduate degree in Health Administration and Behavior Analysis at EMU. See below for a testimonial from Carlos:
“IB is not magic wand to automatically get you into college. It does not guarantee you success and fortune. Yes, universities love to see a IB course work or even a Diploma, it is highly respected. They will set you apart no doubt. What IB really does for you is set a strong foundation that will help you for years to come. It teaches you to push past obstacles and push forward for your goals. It teaches you to build a relationship with teachers and the peers around you. It might seem like a lot of work and commitment but if you want to make it far in life you are going to have to do that and a lot more every day. It is not easy to do all the extraneous course work and other miscellaneous things that comes with the IB curriculum, but it is totally worth it. You obtain skills that add to your repertoire to be able to accomplish and complete goals that you might have never imagined. These skills will then carry on and help you in your future student and professional life. I have experienced it first hand and can tell you I would not be where I am if It was not for the IB program. I would have never started an organization on campus, been a treasurer at a fraternity, done research in behavior and presented at a large conference, started graduate school, and many other things. You will get a lot more out of high school than the average student if you do IB.”
