News from West Ottawa High School

March 2017 Update from the Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and WOHS Community,

As mid term grades, parent-teacher conferences, and spring break nears we are pleased to share some very exciting news and information with you.  The 2016-17 school year has been very successful at WOHS and we are looking forward to the graduating class of 2017 finishing strong in their senior year.

West Ottawa High School Recognized for College Readiness

The Center for Michigan’s Bridge Magazine recently published their 2017 Academic State Champs list. Within the research behind that list, the public policy group identified a handful of schools statewide where students have access to a high quality, college-going culture. The article, titled 6 Reason Why Students at Some High Schools are Better Prepared for College, highlights the work of West Ottawa’s partnership with the Michigan College Access Network as well as the work of our counselors and teachers in promoting post secondary education for all students.

Scheduling for 2016-17

Over the past two weeks, all 9th-11th grade students were busy building a draft of their course schedule for the 2017-18 school year. They were assisted in this process by their Seminar teacher and then each student was invited to an individual meeting with their counselor to finalize their course requests. Please take some time to ask your student about this process and their course request for next year.  It is important to understand that once course request are finalized, and the master schedule is built, changes to a student’s requests will not be available. All course information can be found at

All 8th grade students will meet with their high school counselor beginning March 20.  Please contact your student’s high school guidance counselor with questions.

Parent Satisfaction Survey

In an effort to improve our practices and to better serve students and families, West Ottawa High School is conducting a Parent Survey.  We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey.  Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous.  Your honest opinion is appreciated.  Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Spring Testing Information

State mandated spring testing is just around the corner. Please be aware that our state testing date is April 11, 2017. It is very important that your student is well rested, on time, and in attendance on that day. This is an opportunity for a free college entrance exam for 9th-11th grade students. Please visit out Spring Testing Page for the week’s schedule and other info.
