Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,
Hopefully you had a chance to get out and enjoy the tulips and the Tulip Time festivities this year. The weather is finally starting to feel like we are moving toward summer and the spring semester is moving very quickly toward graduation at WOHS.
Class of 2015 Academic Honors
The Class of 2015 will go down in history as possibly the most academically accomplished class in the history of West Ottawa High School. This class includes 18 Valedictorians (4.0 GPA) and 7 Salutatorians (3.99 GPA). All 25 Vals and Sals have multiple AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment courses on their transcripts. This class truly challenged themselves by taking the most rigorous classes offered, and they excelled in the classroom. West Ottawa High School is pleased to announce the Class of 2015 Top Scholar, valedictorians, and salutatorians. These students have attained the highest level of academic standing through four years of hard work and dedication to their studies. West Ottawa teachers, administrators, and support staff congratulate these fine students.
College Decision Day a HUGE Success
The word “college” is used daily in classrooms throughout West Ottawa High School. From the school-wide College Application Week in the fall to recognizing senior’s college acceptance letters via the PA system each and every week, college is on the mind of WO students. It is a dream pursued and accomplished by an increasing number of WO grads. WOHS staff members stress that college can mean many different things; from Ivy League schools, to four year in-state universities, community colleges, vocational schools, or the military, post-secondary education (college) is stressed as a must for all current and future WO graduates.
On April 30, WOHS College Advisor Jessica Leacher and members of the counseling staff ran our second annual College Decision Day celebration. Over 500 seniors entered the main gym, were greeted by staff members, given “I Decided” t-shirts, were recognized in front of classmates, and received gear and gifts from their respective colleges and universities. Many local colleges sent representatives to personally celebrate with Seniors.
