Mental Health Screening via Community Mental Health available at West Ottawa High School. In a joint effort between West Ottawa Public Schools, Community Mental Health of Ottawa County, and Catholic Charities of West Michigan, we are providing free mental health screenings for youth. Any youth within the West Ottawa District is eligible for a free screening regardless of insurance status.
The screening involves the use of evidenced based screening tools and a meeting with a master’s level mental health professional. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to share their concerns with the mental health professional as well by phone, in person or via email. Information gathered in this screening and through parent conversations can be used to appropriately connect youth and/or families with community resources. Referrals to community services may include additional mental health assessment by the clinician doing the initial screening, mental health services, basic needs (food, clothing), etc.
The goal of this service is to ensure that all students in West Ottawa Schools are physically, emotionally and socially well. It is also our hope that we can encourage strong family supports so that youth and families can reach their potential.
If you are interested in having your child participate in a screening, please contact your child’s school counselor or principal for a consent form.
