News from West Ottawa High School

September 2017 Update from the Principal

Hello WOHS Parents, Students and Community Members!

Our first few weeks of school at West Ottawa High School have gotten off to a great start. Just a few weeks ago we welcomed in over 550 freshmen as part of the Class of 2021! Freshmen Orientation saw nearly 95% of our incoming freshmen attend the morning session with their Seminar teacher.  They took part in activities like touring the campus, meeting their counselor, finding their locker, and having fun getting to know new people. Thanks to our Student Senate, WO Renaissance, NHS, Robotics, drum line, cheerleaders, PALs, and many more groups for volunteering their time to help our new students get comfortable at WOHS. Our upperclassmen have helped our new students integrate into the daily routines at WOHS and have provided leadership in the classrooms, hallways, and athletic fields.

how to get involved and be successful at wohs

We know that when students get connected to clubs, teams, and extracurricular groups they are more successful at WOHS. We have made a concerted effort to help students get connected from day 1. Freshmen take an interest survey during Freshman Orientation, learn about clubs and opportunities, and have a chance to meet upperclassmen and advisors of clubs as they tour campus. During the first week of school, our school leadership team provided consistent lessons for all staff  to engage students in the following topics. Each student went through these lessons during first hour classes.

  • What Makes West Ottawa High School Unique
  • Showing School Spirit
  • Courses and Classes at WOHS
  • How to Get Involved in Clubs
  • How to Get Involved in Arts & Athletics

Meet our new college advisor: Mr. Whitted

West Ottawa High School is fortunate to have been one of the first high schools in the state of Michigan to have a partnership with the Michigan College Access Network and Michigan State University College Advising Corps. This partnership provides WOHS students with a full time college advisor. Our college advisor is available to help all seniors navigate the college-going process including college applications, acceptance, financial aid, scholarships, and the college decision. You can contact Mr. Whitted at whitteda@westottawa.net and follow him on twitter @GoWO_College.

Homecoming Spirit Week 2017

We highly encourage our students to get involved in the most exciting week of the year at WOHS, Homecoming Spirit Week. This week is full of fun and school spirit. Please encourage your student to check out all of the opportunities to get involved in the Homecoming 2017 Packet below.

IMportant dates and our calendar

We realize it can sometimes be frustrating to find important dates and places for the multitude of activities going on at West Ottawa High School.  We will be keeping an updated Quick Reference calendar here on the Panther Pipeline site throughout the year. You can easily access this calendar from any computer or mobile device by visiting pantherpipeline.net and clicking on Important Dates at the top of the page.  You can also find all important date under the Events tab on the main high school page. We hope you are enjoying the last of the summer weather and getting outside with your family. WOHS teachers and staff are looking forward to a wonderful school year.

With Panther PRIDE,

Mr. Tulgestke- Principal
